Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology

Image
Story source : The Key of Gold by Josef Baudis (1922). Fairy Tale: Beauty and the Basilisk This was my favorite story I read for this weeks reading assignment. I have always been a Disney fan so when there is a tory based on a Disney movie or book these tend to be the stories that I am drawn towards. I think it is because I already have prior knowledge on the stories so I know what has been changed to make the story different. I also am a big movie fan so knowing the movies and how those go draw me into to learn about how the person decided to make this new story their own. I really liked this story because they made changes that I really enjoyed reading. I liked how they changed the family to being three girls and their mother. I come from a family of three girls so I connected with that very well. I also liked how they changed the part the parent plays and how the mother was going out to get things for her daughters. I think it was interesting how they decided to change it in the se

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
I think out of the two reading options I would choose the PDE Ramayana online version. I picked this one because I like the idea that it has different authors and lots of illustrations. I love the fact that I would be able to look at pictures along with the story.  The two comic books that I chose are  Krishna and Rukmini: A Love That Will Not Be Denied  &  Hanuman to the Rescue: Hanuman Brings the Sanjeevani  . I chose the first one because I love romance and it is very interesting to me so the fact that the story was about love drew me to want to read it. I chose the second comic because the caption sounded interesting to me. I read the caption and immediately wanted to know more about it.  The first video that I chose is Rama and the Ramayana. I chose this one because I like crash course and the way they do their videos, also the story is one that already interests me. The second one I choose is Harry Potter Meets Hindu Mythology. I chose this video because I am a Harry Potter

Time Strategies

The Psychology of Checklists The Important Habit of Just Starting I read these two articles. I really liked the psychology of checklists article because I know I am that way. Having a checklist and crossing things off that list is very satisfying to me and helps me to know that I am getting things accomplished even if it is small task. I also can sometimes forget all the tasks I need to accomplish so a checklist helps me to remember all the things I need to get done. The important habit of just starting was also an article that I related to. I know when I have something to do I can keep putting it off but once I start the task it is always so much easier to get done so  agree with getting into the habit of just starting things. I believe I already have a good time management schedule going. I tend to do all of my homework in the morning because most of my classes are in the afternoon and this has worked out super well for me this week so far so I think I will continue to do that.  A

Technology Tools

Image
I am familiar with some the tools we are using for this class. I have had to create a website in the past so I do know how that works. I have also blogged in another class so I am familiar with the tools needed for blogging. This online environment is very similar to what I have experienced in other classes so I am used to doing most assignments online. Some web skills I would like to work on this year would be being faster with some web skills. It can take me along time to figures some web things out sometimes so I think making things more seamless will help me a lot. I am by no means an expert, I am still learning a lot myself so I don't really have any tips but I would be very open to hearing tips. My only tip would be to be patient with yourself because it can take some time to get comfortable with new tools you are using.  "Technology is not technology if it was invented before you were born" Source:  "Technology Is Not Technology" by lgb06 is licensed und

First Impression on our Assignments

Image
The assignment that I am most intrigued by would be the storybook assignment. I loved being able to read the former students storybooks and found them all very interesting so I think it will be very fun to create one myself. I think I am also interested in this assignment because I have never done anything like it. I love the idea of recreating a story and making it your own. I think there are lots of great stories in the world and putting your own spin to it makes it a completely new story. I also like the aspect where we comment and share our assignments with other students of the class because it is online so now we will be getting to know the other students in our class. I like the idea of the extra credit assignment check In and Connect because I think it sounds good to know how everyone is doing in the class and to share things that people put in their to know more about the other students.  A student doing their homework.  Source:  Homework

Growth Mindset

Image
I have not heard of the growth mindset or Carol Dweck before taking this course. I think for myself I am probably in the middle. I know that I love to learn more and that when I do understand it I get very happy. But I also know that if I am struggling with something a lot I can get very frustrated with myself and sometimes give up. So I believe in terms of school work sometimes I have have a fixed mindset and sometimes I have a growth mindset. I think when it is something that I am interested in I definitely have a growth mindset but when it is a topic that I am not a passionate about and that I know I will nit be needing as much in the career path I want to go in I can find myself having the fixed mindset. I believe in terms of sports I always have a growth mindset. When there is a new skill I want to learn I often find myself not giving up until I get that skill. While I've been at I've found out that it is much easier for me to have a growth mindset when I am passionate ab

Introduction to Dancer, Sophie!

Image
Hello! My name is Sophie Martin. I am from Orange County, California. I was born and raised there so I know the area very well. Although my family has moved a few times we have generally live in the same part of Orange County. I am very close to my family. I have two older sisters who are amazing. My middle sister does behavioral therapy with children who are on the spectrum and she loves it very much. My oldest sister is an amazing chef and now is working to get her masters in teaching. She also just got married this past summer. She is the first out of all of us to get married so it was very special. I also gained my first brother from this so it was an amazing experience altogether.  My major is public relations with a minor in communication. I absolutely love learning more in this topic. I always knew I wanted to do something social but taking classes in public relations definitely makes me like it even more. I know this major is broad so there are many different paths I can take

Storybook Favorites

The first story that I like the most is Welcome to Wonderland. I really liked the approach they took with this story. Alice in Wonderland is an odd and crazy story with a lot fo funky things in it. I believe that this approach to it shows all the things that Alice sees in the movies and makes sense of it. I know it is a children's movie but I believe that taking it in the stand point as having a mental illness is a very interesting way to look about it. Multiple Personality Disorder is already something that interests me a lot so I believe that is why I really liked reading more about this story and this persons interpretation of what it means. I think they were really creative in writing about this.  Source:  Wonderland The next post that I like the most was the story of Aladdin. I love the original Disney story so I thought I would love to see how this person put their own twist to the story and I was right. I like how they switched the roles in that Aladdin is now the rich one

My Favorite Place... Strands Beach!

Image
One of my favorite places is actually where I live. It is in Dana Point, California and it is a beach called Strands Beach. This beach is one of my favorite places because every time I go I feel very relaxed and like there is no worries in the world. It is a long stretch of sand and ocean which also makes it a very nice beach to walk on. I like to spend mornings walking on the beach and then going back later in the day to lay out in the sun and relax. I have created so many amazing memories there with family and friends and it will forever be one of my favorite places in the world.  California Beaches Picture  Source:  https://www.californiabeaches.com/beach/dana-strand-beach/ This is a picture of the long walk you can do along the beach.  This is a photo that I took while at the beach. My friend and I got an açaí bowl for lunch and went and sat on the rocks at the beach to eat them while looking out at the ocean.

First Post!

I am so excited to start this new class and learn things that I have never learned about. I know it is all going to be very interesting.
