Week 7 Story: Brer Rabbit

Brer Rabbit

Bibliography: Brer Rabbit by Joel Chandler Harris brer-rabbit-uncle-remus-initiates.html

In this world rabbits are very powerful and strong. They use their legs to help get away from things and they have very very strong and sharp teeth that they can kill almost anything with. And on the other hand foxes are very weak animals they do not have much strength and often find themselves in sticky situations with which they use their brains to get out of.

Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox were always at odds with each other.  Brer Rabbit was always trying to eat Brer Fox but he had not had any lucky yet. On day Brer Rabbit said that the neighborhood was tired of them not being friends so he invited him over to have dinner with him. Brer Fox agreed but knew to be careful when going. So the next day Brer Fox get ready to head to dinner. As he was on his way he saw Brer Rabbit created a trap outside his house to try to catch Brer Fox. So when Brer Fox had arrived he knew who to expect so he dodged the trap and knocked on Brer Rabbits door. Before Brer Rabbit could see his he ran away and hid in a near bush to see what Brer Rabbit would do. Brer Rabbit was confused so he stepped out of his house and into the doorway and forgot about the trap. He stepped into it and was taken up. Brer Fox came out and laughed at Brer Rabbit because he knew what his plan was. Brer Rabbit was very embarrassed.

Here is a picture of Brer Fox up to no good.

Authors note: This story is a spin off from the Brer Rabbit stories. It is still true that Brer Rabbit and Beer Fox are always trying to play pranks on one another, Brer Fox is usually trying to trick Brer Rabbit into eating him but Brer Rabbit tends to out smart him so I wanted to create a story that changed roles.

  1. Sophie, I like this twist of the original story, and also the whimsical nature of it. While reading it, I got Tom and Jerry type of vibes too, and that just added to the nostalgia of the story. Thank you for sharing it, it was really cute!

  2. Hi Sophie! I really liked the lightheartedness of this story, and I'll admit to getting the Tom and Jerry idea from the previous comment, but as soon as I read the comment I saw that relationship in the story as well! Both have a sort of rivalry going on but in a very lighthearted manner that's more fun than serious.
