Reading Notes: Brer Rabbit (Part B)

Brer Rabbit

Bibliography: Brer Rabbit by Joel Chandler Harris brer-rabbit-uncle-remus-initiates.html

Brer Fox was sitting at the pond listening to the fish, the frogs, and the bull-frogs. They were all saying very weird things and he did not understand.  He looked into the pond and saw another fox, he went to shake his hand and fell into the pond. He managed to get out but mud turtle almost got him.

Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox were always making fools of each other. One day a bunch of them were clearing ground to plant new things. In the midst Brer Rabbit got hot and made an excuse to go find a cooler place to work. Brer Rabbit came across a well and decided to take a nap there but began to go into the water. But Brer Fox always kept an eye on Brer Rabbit so he followed his and saw that he went into the well so he went over to see what he was doing. Brer Rabbit told Brer Fox that he was getting fish down there and told him to come and help so Brer Fox jumped into the bucket which led the other bucket to go up with Brer Rabbit. Brer Rabbit made fun of Brer Fox for falling for the trick.

Brer Rabbit and Brer Buzzard decided to share crops together for the year to come but they had no luck. Brer Buzzard said that they could fine gold in the mine and Brer Rabbit agreed to go with him. He had to cross a river but every time he did he would catch a cold so Brer Buzzard agreed to help him across. Brer Rabbit told him that they should look at his own gold mine first before going to another so Brer Buzzard took him back but Brer Rabbit stayed weak in the knees for a whole month after this.

Here is a picture of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear.
