Week 2 Story: Handsome and the Witch

Once upon a time there was a women who lived in a castle. She was cursed and became a witch, the only thing that could cure her was having someone love her for whats on the inside and not the outside.

There was a poor family who lived in a small countryside home. There was a small village next to them and thats all they had. The mother of this family was quit ill. Her son was all she had and he knew of a place in the woods where he could get medicine to cure her. So he adventured to save his sick mother.

As he was in the woods looking for this medicine it began to storm. He was freezing and did not bring any supplies to help him get through this storm. He continued to look through the woods and as he was doing so he came across a ginormous castle. He decided he would ask to stay there the night until the storm blew over and he could look again in the morning, considering he was far from home. He went into the castle and found it to be empty until witch came out and threatened him asking why he was there. She threw him in the castles jail. He explained why he was in the woods, to help cure his mother with the special medicine he had heard about. The witch explained that she had this medicine and that she would give it to him under one condition. That he becomes her prisoner.

He agreed to this so in the morning he brought the medicine to his mother and told her what happened. She felt very sad and offered not to take it but her son insisted. So after he gave it to her he went back to the castle to fulfill his promise.

He lived with the witch and realized she was very mean. After a couples weeks of living there she started to open up and become more caring and kind to her. The witch went outside one day and got injured and the young man went to save her and thats when she realized that this man really did care for her and love her. So after that moment the witch turned back into her beautiful self and they fell in love. They got married and live together in the castle and the beautiful women was never mean again.

Authors note: I changed this story from the original one of Beauty and the Beast. I change the genders of the main characters. The beast is normally the one who lives in the castle and the beauty is from the village. So the biggest change I made was between those two.

  1. The part about the man decides to go to the woods and find the medicine to save her mother, and the part that the man chose to take care of the witch and save her is very impressive. This is a kind of classic story plot. It shows a core value in our community which is love. Also, I feel so happy that the man and the witch could have a happy ending! Although I have read many different stories that both contain such a happy ending, I still enjoy reading them. For me, I would also like to imagine what would happen after the end of the story.
Then, I understand why the witch is angry and put the man into jail. However, I do not understand why the witch choice to trust the man. Is there anything that happened when the man first met the women, and those things make the witch think the man could be trusted? Also, I do not understand why the man could love the witch in such a short period. Maybe we need a little bit more description of this process?

  2. Hi Sophie! I love your version of the Beauty and the Beast. I like the back story of the son who wanted to get medicine for his mother. I really liked the gender flip in this scenario. I had a couple of questions such as what made the witch open up and become caring? Why exactly did she want him to be her prisoner? Was it because she was just mean, or was it because she wanted to break her curse and make the guy like her on the inside?
